Caleb and Mr Green MucusPosted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 9 July 2007 in People & Portrait. This is Caleb after his bout of vomiting today. Sorry i havent been blogging very regularly these days.Hub has returned to work and I have to cope with 2 sick little guys on my own.i just managed to take a bit of time off while they are knocked out by the effects of the medicine. All four of us actually had to see the doctor twice because the first time apparently did not get us well. A few friends actually tell me they think i seem to be coping very well as a stay at home mom with 2 children, from what they read from my blog. Well,i suppose i usually blog about happy things because it is always healthy to think of things that are lovely, happy and wonderful. And of course i did not want to appear too whiny as well. Staying at home is a tougher road for me compared to working.Perhaps only those who spend enough time alone with young children can attest to the fact that SAHM's life is not a bed of roses. American sitcom Desperate Housewives definitely is not real because they have time to do manicure and their hair always look set in place and my,they put on makeup too! SO if you are working and envying me for seemingly enjoying the better life,DON'T. If you are staying at home and think that i seem to be doing a much better job than you,DON'T either.I just dont blog about the times i failed, the food burnt, clothes in a mountainous pile to be ironed,a toddler brawled on the floor crying for attention in the supermarket and all the aunties shake their heads,a baby screaming at the top of his voice, and times i feel so low i thought the world has ended. Hey,I am human like you:) I just brought the 2 little guys to the pediatrician today.Took the train because i could not get a cab, because Caleb is fascinated with the train at this point of his life and i wanted to be the 1st in queue. The Clinic opens at 9 and it is a madhouse after 9:01am. And so i reached the clinic at 835am.Man,i never imagined i would join the ranks of one of those 'aunties' i used to criticise who would start queueing for goody bags and freebies well before the stipulated time starts. Turns out Caleb's sensitive nose got really swollen inside, according to the doc and there is some infection going on,which explains why his mucus is green. Little Ian actually had 2 ulcers in his throat, which explains why he wasnt drinking milk well.Goodness,2! Both little guys got to be on anitibiotics for now. Back home,it was war at Baghdad.First,i had to put Ian to sleep, who was refusing to for some reason. The 'May Cause Drowsiness' medicine doesnt seem to work leh.I fed him milk but i suppose his poor throat couldnt take it.Then Caleb was running amok with green mucus dripping all over the house,he started scattering his toys all over the place. Where is SuperNanny?Gina Ford, the author of the Contented Little Babies Series did not talk about how to deal with this scenario. So i was dancing limbo with the little guys for about an hour before Ian finally settled to sleep and thereafter Caleb. Just when i thought peace was restored,Caleb woke up coughing vehemently. OH NO,DONT DO IT! Brick brack,a day's worth of milk and food 'sprang out' like a fountain from Caleb's mouth. Then i had to comfort a cranky and scared toddler and try to think what to do with the pile of vomit on the bed,the comforter and the floor. Caleb is wide awake by now and 'ack'!Ian is awake too! Then another limbo dancing with the boys for 3 hours i think, before they sleep and hub is back to relieve me. Oh i forgot to tell you,the doctor's fees today came up to a month's worth of tuition fees of one kid!Sigh, guess i need to take up more tuition kids to supplement our doc's visits alone!

Xinyi from SingaporeDearie. hang on.. wanted to take off to see u and d boys.. but it's tough to take off in lieu wif my boss who's super bias against some of us.. u hang on ok?? hope i can drop by next wk.. jia you and take care 9 Jul 2007 10:09am @Xinyi: sure, you take care too since National Day is coming..super busy! When is the National Day preview?I rem some frens celebrating my birthday on the preview day and there were fireworks,as if in celebration of my birthday..haha,thinking of asking geen to bring me to see the fireworks on preview day.. {H} creatives from Santa Clara, United StatesHi Tyan...I'm sorry to hear that the saga continues...I do hope that you and Law are hanging tough. Thanks for still taking the time to drop by my p-blog and comment. Caleb looks so melancholic here, he probably strongly dislike (don't like to use the 4-letter 'h' word) what is happening to him...poor guy. Reminds me of when K was sick...children's sickness is indeed parent's heartache. Glad you took Caleb to the doc (sorry to hear about the high doc's bill) - I learnt that green mucuous can be a sign of infection and must be treated early. Can't be there to physically visit you and Law to offer encouragement in person, but reminded of the faith of the centurion, so with that same faith a prayer in His name was extended to you, Law and the whole fam. Take care...! 9 Jul 2007 1:00pm @{H} creatives: thanks for the thought pal! Actually blogging has become one of my sanity savers and each friend who comes and visit and drop their encouraging words does lift me up a fair bit,so thanks for making my day!:) Joanie from SingaporeHey, stay cool! My gal was like that too for the past few days. Recovered from fever and down with flu and cough. Yes cough is horrible. Don't know if coz we put her in aircon rm that she will cough herself up and throw out food in the night. Yes, her poor bed and my poor bed got messed up till we gave up changing the sheets and clean up the mess to allow to dry. Twice each night till last night we brought her to the PD. She appeared ok in the day though and we fed her some old medication. Ok, I know we shouldn't self-medicate but still got leftover and it's cough. Thot the med din work and so brought her to dr. It was a terrible wait last night. Took about 2 hrs to see the PD and got home past 10.30pm. Hb wasn't pls that I suggested bringing her to PD at night. Then again, I didn't insist when I saw she was ok. I juz informed him what I heard from the nurse over the phone abt her condition and even suggested let her go for one more night and see how the condition will be. Then he commented that if last night was bad, I would be blaming for not bringing her to the PD. Ok don't know who right and who wrong. Think I am just raving. Last night without feeding her the new medication, she was fine! Arghhh....always like that, the moment I bring her to PD, she always miraculously recover. Btw, be thankful ur kids are willing to let the dr. examine. Mine upon entry to the PD's rm, will start to cry and cling on to us as if she has met the evil one. Can't even have the PD do a proper examination! Wonder if I am wasting money bringing her there sometimes. Guess u better cook more barley water for them and probably not let them sleep in aircon rm. Loads of fruits too. Think common bug is going around and they need just more water. U might try ice cubes fruit juice if they refuse to take enough liquids. 10 Jul 2007 2:05am @Joanie: i've been to the PD at night.I understand what you mean, really is very crowded and stressful.I suppose both of you just feel the strain especially after a hard day's work.Looks like all 3 of you had a bad day!Feeding my 2 little guys medicine cut short my life span.Ian struggles and spits out the medicine, drip all over the floor,etc.Sigh.Sometimes i wonder if i actually stay home to clean up their mess and deal with their tantrums...its so hard sometimes when u cant see any tangible reward! Nancy from SingaporeYou are doing very well and hang on in there! 10 Jul 2007 7:52am @Nancy: Caleb been vomiting quite a bit and ian is thankfully drinking more as i write this reply.whats this thing abt confinement women?I remember hunting for a nanny during my confinement after delivering caleb and one of the potential candidates request i don enter her rooms.Something abt being dirty or sth? Haha, you are very bold to 'gossip' abt your parents in law online babe!Talking abt that,a fren told me her father in law was sick and went to arry her premature baby, now poor baby has lung infection.Sometimes they are just not so conscious..i understand.i have been quite sleepless the past nights the kids were sick.Somehow they just feel v uncomfortable at night. Xinyi from Singaporehahaha.. i've been workin on all saturdays now.. not sure when the preview is but this year we have 3 NE shows, starting from last sat.. so on 14th, 21st, u will stil get to see fireworks.. but marina is super packed.. hahhaa.. roads between esplanade and the marina mandarin, pan pac and ritz hotels are all closed.. d best is to park at esplanade itself and watch from d seaside or one fullerton.. by the way, dun come from the mrt direction cos d public cant enter esplanade from d door where d taxi stand is.. horrible de.. 11 Jul 2007 1:52am @Xinyi: oh dear...like that v hard hor. Nancy from Singaporeaiyo...what to do? I rather be safe than sorry when it comes to kids. It's more like the kids are 'pantang' and if one is doing confinement, shouldn't come 'cos will 'clash' or 'bring sthg unlucky or dirty' to the kids. 11 Jul 2007 7:05am @Nancy: yeah i used the cherry rub too!haha, then i must have brought a lot of bad luck to the NTUC near my place cos i kept going during confinement...had to buy my own groceries... |
