Beach Bang

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 25 July 2007 in People & Portrait.

Every Friday is Outing Day for the 3 of us.Last week,it has been raining most of the days and we have been quite cooped up at home. So when the sun was shining and the birds were singing last friday,i decided to be adventurous and brought the little guys to the beach on my own.The beach is quite far away from our home, and there is no train there so we took a cab.

This is Caleb, sitting on the bench beside the beach, ready for a stroll along the beach..Maybe i made a mistake by taking off his shoes, cos after that he did not want to walk, much less near the water.Sigh.So much for travelling all the way to the beach.

You are so brave to bring both boys to the beach all by yourself! I haven't not even brought Robyn and Marcus out together by myself! Shudder to even think about it...:p

Hi dearie,
Caleb looks soooo chubby here!! My first reaction is to pinch his cheeks. hehe! I've gone back to work this Monday, felt so much better. Working is good to cast aside my sadness - concerned colleagues, supportive hods, caring P & VP, sweet students, students' silly behaviour & jokes all cheered me up very much. At least I can say I no longer feel so gloomy.

Oh yes, last week was your birthday. Happy belated 27th birthday!!!!!!! I'm so sorry I didn't get u anything, I caged myself at my mom's place the whole week so was feeling gloomier than ever.

25 Jul 2007 3:28pm

@Cookie: hi babe,
i am glad you are feeling better.I was about to sms you to ask u how you were.yup, somehow Caleb looks quite chubby here, maybe it s the angle from which i took the pic. But people are saying he looks quite lean now, maybe after being taken care of by his mommy, lol.yup,i agree working is good in a sense it helps u to occupy you so you dont think so much.I am sure your current school is better than where we were teaching. You'd probably feel more sick in every way if you had remained in that 'God-forsaken place'(in your words),ha.

oh dear, you revealed my age in public!Dur.anyway its ok,married women dont really have to hide their age anymore yeah, value depreciate already, haha.

i m glad work helped to lift u a bit.I was telling lawrence that even though there were times i felt lonely when i was working,I still had work to occupy me,so i don think abt the loneliness so much. But staying at home somewhat amplified the solitariness a thousand times over. You know at work, you put in effort in a project,in a student, you see results soon enough. The working mom and the slim lady in the ads in papers make heads turn, children aspire and governments endorse. The lonely mother labours at home without any tangible reward in sight, but nobody sees it,nobody applauses it. The government silently disapproves. Oh well,i still wonder how long more i can hold on to this noble calling. Everyday i think only God's grace sustains me.At least i had you popping by my desk in the past every now and then to sob to and complain. lol.

Awww! this is a really beautiful capture of Caleb, he looks so happy :)

@MaryB: thanks mary,i took this pic because he was actually babbling to himself,in incoherent sentences stringing up all the words that he knows.:)

Joanie from Singapore

This is a nice shot! You brought them to ECP? I really admire you. I think you have really done well. Btw, I always thot we were the same age to realise you are actually younger than me! Anyway so any plans for this Friday? I am off to take care of my gal coz my mum needs to go for a checkup. Bringing her to the doc for her MMR jab early but haven't planned out the later part of the day. Interested to meet? Heehee...

26 Jul 2007 12:42am

@Joanie: hi joanie!ya sure we could go out!Maybe you could sms/call me.You have my no, right?i dont have yours so gotto wait for your call here. What time are you talking about?I usually bring them out from 10-12.Let me know ya.I was thinking of Borders but open to other ideas. Maybe we could just do lunch, dont be so ambitious first, with 3 young kids in tow and one more in the tummy, haha.

Caleb is good size. Think Keziah about the same too, not that chubby but got powerful meaty legs.

Hi dear,

I can understand how stiflingly mundane your current life as a SAHM can be. It is a hectic 24-7 job that easily goes without appreciation and recognition. I do agree with u, from the benefits working moms are getting, SAHMs are frowned upon discreetly by our government which is ever so concerned about boosting the dollar. Your job is definitely a calling, and noble.

Despite the fact that I very much appreciate my current workplace, my 'homecalling' has always been very strong. I believe I will be compromising my child if I spend so much time and effort on other people's children. Already I'm guilt-ridden some days after work I'd be so drained that I simply chuck Fangyi into his cot. Every morning when I whisk him off to my mom's place, I still feel quite guilty. Like what I've always told u, I still wanna be a SAHM and am working hard to achieve that ;)

I can understand your solitude. If u have a handful of friends who are SAHM, u may not feel so caged up and probably even enjoy yourself. Maybe it'll be good if u can seek out SAHMs, through church or forum or Caleb's future playgroup?

26 Jul 2007 2:17pm

@Cookie: yeah, prob will check out my church's moms grp one of these days.Been anti social for quite some time, haha.I think i am still adjusting to SAHM life.Remember we had so many young mommies in school and we can yak so long abt our kids??But i do agree with u.COme back from work,so tired we dont even have enough time with them.Hub always tell me,if i am working now,i may not even know Ian,if u know what i mean.

Great smile from Caleb here! Great pic....not sure that I mentioned this before, but Keshia used to be afraid of the waves....until this year [she is 3 now]. I took her "hiking" by the beach several weeks back and she just love the waves, and we've been back to the beach every Saturday during "Daddy's Date Day with Daughter"....B-) Maybe someday Caleb will come to love the playful waves....Send regards to Law and the boyz, as always. Cheers!

@{H} creatives: thanks dude!hopefully when Ian learns to walk and i can have more free hands to bring them to beach to play:)

Exactly dear, that's why u r doing the right thing! Though now the going may get mundane and lonely for u, do seek out those SAHMs!!
