Fried Fish Bee Hoon

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 21 August 2007 in Food & Cuisine.

This is a common dish at food courts and hawker centres. Wanted to try making it myself.

I used:
1. Lee Kum Kee's Seafood soup base
2. Ginger,sliced thinly
3.Sliced Fish(kurau, toman are good choices),coated with dairy free margarine and flour, baked in oven,180 deg c for 10 minutes(i hate frying so i see baking as a good alternative)
4. Chye Sim
5. Tomatoes,quartered
6. Unsweetened milk(put as much as u like, its like drinking coffee, you decide how much creamer you want ya?)

Hub loves it,its an easy dish provided you dont mind using ready-mix soup base.
If you are the more health conscious ones and have time on your hands, maybe you can try making your own soup with fish bones,a bit of soy sauce, pork ribs, shrimp paste.

Due to bad lighting and poor photography skills,my vege looked rather blackish...lol,rest assured they were fresh green when eaten!

Lorraine from Canada

Wow Tyan that looks delicious, can I have some? My idea of cooking is grabbing something raw, or opening a can, and on a real good day, I'll microwave ;)

@Lorraine: Sure, freeze and DHL on the way!;)

It looks really really yummy tyan :)
I think I'm going to have to try cooking my fish in this way too! I don't fry food either, or if I do I fry without oil, but in the oven sounds good to me. If I can get the rest of the ingredient then I will give it a try :)

Yah. It's a madhouse with students who can't decide what modules they want to read, others appealing for modules that they didn't secure. And with Robyn refusing to sleep at 9 plus....i just knock out with her almost every night.

24 Aug 2007 2:22pm

@Nancy: oh dear...sounds bad...so you become mad woman already??!!Sigh, uni studies are really very luan,at least for me..luan for the students, luan for those who work there. Do you like this job though? Does Robyn usually sleep at 9 plus?Maybe she misses you all,or wants to play.I also have difficulty putting Caleb to sleep early,he just seems to have so much adrenaline at the end of the day, when i have none left, lol.

Lion Eating Me from Singapore

Hi, I've never tried baking the fish but indeed it was a success and my kids loved it! I also add fried ikan bilis as garnishing and it's yummy... thanks!
