Baby food(6-8months): Egg-Yolk CustardPosted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 10 September 2007 in Food & Cuisine. Ian has been on fruit(apple, pear, banana, orange, peach) and vegetable(broccoli, sweet potato, spinach) puree; and cream of fruit and vegetable. Recently he has begun rejecting the food i feed him by clamming his mouth shut, very shut. So i invested in this Fresh Food for Babies and Toddlers by Australian Women's Weekly. Made this egg-yolk custard, and though it was a lot more work, thank God, Ian finally opened his mouth! Preparation Time: 5 minutes You will need: 1) Bring milk and ground cinnamon to boil in a small saucepan, remove from heat. 2) Whisk yolk, sugar and corn flour in a small bowl until combined. 3) Pour milk mixture over yolk mixture, whisking continuously until combined. 4) Return mixture to same pan; cook, stirring over low heat, until mixture just boils and thickens. Remove from heat, cover surface of custard with plastic wrap. Cool to room temperature. FYI: Why Egg-yolk and not egg-white? Egg-whites are ONLY to be offered to children after 1 year of age as it is a common allergen. Same goes for honey. (I wonder what Pooh Bear ate before he turned 1?lol) And yes, i heaved a HUGE sigh of relief when Little Ian opened his 'golden' mouth to the custard, without me forcing it down his throat..:p [Feel free to go to my archives to check out Food and Cuisine section for more simple homecooked food recipes]
