Dear friends, thank you for visiting my blog and offering such kind words and advice. Sorry I have not been able to post pictures or visit you as the 2 little guys were still sick, and their sleeping time was spent clearing the backlog ironing, washing and cleaning. I'll see you soon at your p/blogs!
Talking about cleaning,i received a call last week from a 'cleaning company' called Healthy Homes Pte Ltd. They called me by name and said that a friend,[they quoted the friend's name, whom i knew]gave me a voucher,in which the company will clean up a living room,2 bedrooms, clearing dustmites. I was not too keen at first, and very wary, but i thought since my friend was so 'nice' to give me a voucher, and i thought if this company was good,i could use them in future.
so i accepted the voucher and a lady turned up with a bulky vacuum cleaner on Sunday night.
For the whole hour she was here, she talked about the benefits of the Vacuum Cleaner, how it could remove dust mites in the house, clean the floor and also triple up as an aromatherapy machine. When we asked her what the total cost was,she beat around the bush and said we could pay instalments of $100 every month. Law got irritated and asked her So what's the total cost? She finally, after beating about the bush for another few minutes said it was 3K plus.
When we refused to buy,she used emotional blackmail and said we didnt care about the well being of our kids. She spilled her cleaning liquid on our floor and made my living room even more dirty than when she came.
And no,they did not clean our living room, nor bedroom as promised, only begrudgingly vaccuming one bed,and in the process dirtied my bedroom floor.
And she would not leave till we wrote down names of our friends for her to prey on next. We refused and she used emotional blackmail again.
First i am angry with the company, who told half-truths to gain admittance to our homes, under the facade of a cleaning company when they are REALLY a sales company.
Second I am irritated with the saleslady for dirtying our house and not delivering what was promised.
Third, i am upset with that 'friend',whom i do not even know well, for giving my name and number and thus subjected me to an hour of torture listening to that saleswoman. At the very least, this friend should have warned me in advance.
Oh well, maybe my kids fell sick because i didnt buy that darn vacuum cleaner??!!

This is Caleb feasting on chocolate muffins, his new fad.
This poor guy still coughs quite badly but at least his fever has subsided and doesnt wake up as often the past week's nights.
But my THIRD baby just called me from his workplace to tell me he is falling sick. Oh well. When is my turn?

@sincheroo: hey uncle sinch!yeah!did u fall prey as well?i wonder if our 'friend' is the same person. So did u buy one for baby Isaac? If not,in that woman's words, you are not concerned enough abt Isaac's hygiene and well being,ha!
Ouch! Tyan, this is so hateful a process; there's at least one company in the US that does this same kind of thing -- Kirby Vacuum Cleaners. They have clunky, noisy machines and they use any pretext to get into your house in the belief that consumers don't have the courage or the sense to not pay the horribly inflated prices for their machine once they are inside. It must work enough times. I am glad you and Law did not buy or give names for their counterpart predators where you live. The best vacuum cleaner we've ever had in 35 years of marriage (and we've gone through Eurekas, Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and more) is the Oreck. They are powerful and almost never need any service. Online purchases often come with great incentives, too.

Umm, in my vacuum mode, I almost forgot to say that I think this portrait of Caleb is outstanding, and should help you get through the remaining days of his recovery (I pray he'll feel better each day). Also sorry to hear of your next "baby" coming down with this too. Lots of chicken soup, vitamin C, rest, and TLC...

@Viewfinder: thanks very much Uncle VF. You should be here to help us tell that woman off, haha. My hub was also saying the servicing costs would be enough to cause us backruptcy, haha.
hey, just a tip. chocolate's really bad for cough! it triggers coughing spells. but keeping caleb from choc muffins, well, that's ur task not mine! :))

@Shutterbug: thanks for the advice dude!Yeah you are right,i didnt dare to give him too much, just a little to salvage my day from his endless baaling and tantrum throwing...and pss, please dont tell my mother-in-law!
What an inethical sales tactic! Thanks for the headsup.. I will steer clear from them. And thanks for dropping by at my blog tyan.. I know you're already busy enough when the kids are well... Take care ya?!!

@rainsocks: ok thanks!Blogging is my way of chilling, thanks for coming too!;)
That is sooo beautiful Tyan..I'm glad you weren't intimidated by that woman, like rainsocks said it is clearly unethical.

@Lorraine: thank so much L babe, the original was actually a little blur so i used watercolour effect to cover it up:)
Aiyoh, I had the same torture too ... for nearly 3 solid hours a lady came during my confinement & gave a big lecture starting with my master bedroom on how "dirty" my bed is & the room air quality is bad for the baby. She kept singing praises non-stop on how good this vacuum cleaner cum aromatherapy machine is & refused to go away too until we give a name to her. We then told our fren not to let them enter his house. I was also quite annoyed with my fren for not warning me earlier & subjected me to this endless talk about the machine especially during my confinement. Ya, in the end, the lady only do the cleaning on my bed & not other bedrooms & left a mess in my toilet for me to clean up!! I forever will remember the name of this machine called "Rainbow". Beware, mommies & daddies out there!!!

@ChaCha: Merci,cha cha!
I've kenna before...this co. is really persistent....they used the same tactic on me - emotional backmail.

@Nancy Goh: sickening right,these people?!?!?
The NERVE! UGH - ya know i'm not a person whom likes to have confrontations, but in this case - i think i would just tell her to GET OUT - Its my house, just GET OUT - that i don't need her UNTRUE sob story and she can go try it on someone else. ha i would have given the same name as the friend that recommended you. Some friend they are.
I hope your sweetie doesn't get to sick. Take good care of each other.

@Rabbit: thanks babe...i should have told her to get out, shouldnt i?I dont know why i didnt do it and am now regretting.
These Rainbow Cleaner folks have been at it for years, and yes, they do leave a deep impression. I still remember an encounter with them... hmm... more than 20 years ago? Let's see if Caleb can remember his parents' exasperating encounter with Rainbow when he grows up. :) Anyway, according to Wiki, the Rainbow series of vacuum cleaners was introduced in 1955.

Oh girl, after all you are gong through to have something like that happen I cannot believe that salesperson walked out on two legs!! If I would have been there I would have given that salesperson a piece or two of my mind. As far as hubby coming down sick well that always seems to happen. As for when it is your turn? That my friend is the law of the universe, mommy WON'T get sick because she needs to tend to everyone else! Sad but true. My dear friend I wish you patience and lots of sleep until everyone is back feeling better. Much love to you.

Oh Tyan I've been there too! but with the Kirby cleaner that VF mentioned! the guy was there for hours, we'd not eaten that night either he came at 6.30 and left at nearly a quarter to 10!!!! He tried the emotional blackmail stuff too, saying that our house was dirty and alive with bugs! grrrr the cheek! I had apparently won a prize of having my carpets cleaned but he wanted to clean our mattress, I think he spent almost an hour trying to persuade us to let him upstairs, he didn't get there and we didn't get our carpets cleaned either! That was about 20 years ago! I'm 100% sure your little ones didn't get sick because you don't have the Cleaner, Kids get sick, some more than others, I was allways sick when I was little, my brother was very healthy! Beautiful photographs Tyan, while I was away and little Caleb is just adorable in this one. Hope the 3 boys are soon better :)

Oh dear - I hate it when those people try to con you like that. It would be so much better for them if they just came out with the truth straight away!!! :) I really hope your littl eones feel better soon. I have started getting sicknow too, but you know us...as mommies we have to be well even when we're ill!!! hahahaha. Bless you and your little ones Hun, I hope they all feel better soon. This is a lovely pic by the way!!! :)

Wow! This is another absolutely priceless portrait of your gorgeous little man, Caleb!! Really wonderful capture and framing, dear tyan!!
And oh dear from me too! Was quite disturbed and really so sorry to hear about your encounter with that totally nasty company and woman!! The thing about such people is they can come across as pretty scary, ‘cos they either try emotional blackmail or they sometimes try to carry some threat with them. There are some of such downright unscrupulous operators over here too! We had a couple of nasty brushes with them especially when we were trying to get the double-glazing done for our home. One of them in particular offered us totally inferior work at totally inflated sky-high prices and kept pestering us to accept the offer and even indirectly threatened us by saying he drives by where we live very often, knows what our household security is like, etc! (Thankfully we’ve changed that since!). But I agree with Rabbit, I for one have to learn to be more brave to stand up to such people too! Otherwise they really get their way by literally bullying others into submission!
You and yours remain much in our thoughts and prayers, dear one! Really hope you all get the chance to rest and recover properly!!
And what is this about being embarrassed about visits, huh, dear babe? My photography skills are really half-past six only, and I’m so grateful to fantastic friends like you who keep faithfully visiting and giving such wonderfully supportive comments!! THANK YOU to YOU again!! Seriously. :)

lovely image. I am sorry about what happened. This world has come crazy people. Hang in there.

My gosh! Sorry to hear you have been subjected to this sort of hard-sell tactics. If that woman refused to leave, I might have called the police!

Hey tyan! Guess what - a taiwanese lady called me 2mths back and I think it was the same lady whom u dealt with! She named a fd whom I knew and claimed the latter was so 'satisfied' with the service that she recommended the free cleaning voucher to me. But I got a bit suspicious when she said her cleaning co had been ard for 20+ yrs yet they do nt hv a website when I asked. Which decent co does nt hv a website nowadays right? Anyway, I wasn't interested cos I already hv PT domestic help but she was q persistent and called me more than a couple of times. Later I got fed up and just said I wasn't interested then I hung up on her. I was slightly upset with that fd who gave away my contact without my permission though I didn't confront her abt it. I think u did the right thing by nt giving away the contact nos of those u knew to her.
