Caleb and ABCs

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 11 November 2007 in People & Portrait.

Law has gone for reservist and have to stay in camp for three and a half weeks,so for my sanity's sake{i cant do without talking to an adult 24/7,i will go insane},i shifted the kids and myself to my parents' place.

I try to keep to our daily routine of learning our ABCs in the mornings. Caleb got sick of the 'Touch and say' alphabet book in the background on the right so i bought this wooden alphabet jigsaw. He seems to have got tired of the routine so i am thinking of ways to spice it up. Any suggestions?:)

Awwww he looks very content playing with it. You should get him one of those pushcart things that rattle or play a tune when it rolls. Although it might get on your nerves.

how old is he? I don't remember when i learned my ABC's however maybe you should mix it up by learning a song for a week & then go back to the ABC's I know repitition is best for learning but even as adults we tire of the same ol thing. Learning a song will help with memory as well - so its not a total loss if you step away from the ABC's besdies your abc's are a lot to remember for someone so little.

another way to spice it up even for you - could be to learn the sign language that goes with the ABC's its said that children learn hand gestures before they can really speak well - because a different part of the brain has to develop for speech and that usually takes a bit longer. Mean-while you could learn American Sign Language :D

Dear tyan,
U can try getting him alphabets type of jigsaw. Fangyi loves jigsaw big time esp the ones with vehicles. I make him learn his numbers through such jigsaw.

How about finger painting for a little while, a little messy, but I think would be a lot of fun for all, until cleaning time came along.

Wow, I love this. It is a truly fantastic image – really gorgeous treatment, dearest babe! Wow, again!
As to spicing up the routine, does Caleb like lift-the-flap books? Elise really loves them, and they’ve really helped to grow her interest in books and enjoying learning through play. I still feel enjoyable play is the best way for little ones to learn. :) Our little missy is also very into songs at the moment, so we’ve been singing a lot of nursery rhymes with actions, and the ABC song, counting song, other fun songs , etc with her everyday, and playing CDs with those songs on them in the day as she plays – music has an amazing way of perking her up! :) She also seems to be naturally picking up the words and some letters of the alphabet and a few numbers in the process of all the music and singing. She does love jigsaw puzzles too, so definite thumbs-up to that from us too :) .
