Chinese New Year is happening in about 2 weeks' time and I bought some lanterns and couplets to put at our door and inside our house..Not a major fan of Chinese New Year, but just thought I'll put them up and can start some conversations rolling with Caleb about festivals that we celebrate.
And you will notice that the lanterns and couplets has got Mickey mouse on them. This is because 2008 is the Year of the Rat according to the chinese zodiac.
oh, but i heard it was the year of the snake? guess i got it wrong :)

@Nishana: The Year of the Snake is 6 years later,the year 2013.If i am not wrong,the mouse is the first of the 12 year cycle.:)

Oh wow - you have such wonderful traditions in Singapore Tyan - loads of culture to share with your children - so wonderful and I love this collage you've put together - masterful and the laterns are pretty cool too! :)

I think celebrating Chinese New Year and the Mexican Cinco de Mayo are two examples of globalism having a great impact on us all. I am all for increasing the celebration of life, and more good holidays. This is a really fun shot tyan! Thanks for being so creative and sharing.

thats quite odd - year of the mouse? theres a mouse hummm i thought i was a rat, but maybe that sounded dirty. i think it to be funny that they use an icon image such as mickey? Using mickey mouse cost money - since hes a symbol of Disney.
