My Morbid Hobby

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 31 January 2008 in People & Portrait.

I have this hobby--i collect the coloured caps of the medicine bottles each time the boys fall sick and get to see the doctor. If i had started collecting since Caleb was born,i probably could fill up a bottle by now,but it's better to be late than never.

So Caleb has not been able to attend school because of his fever and flu.His fever has been quite persistent for about 2 days and he coughs really badly and he has really been in a bad mood. When i bring the boys out for a short while,he got really agitated a few times when some kind hearted people helped me to shift the stroller a bit in th lift or through the train gantry. He'll yell and scream and cry until i was one finger's distance from him.

At night,he coughs really badly until he trembled and vomited his food.He also didnt want to eat his meals, afraid that he will vomit. And he had been vomiting his meals the past few days.Today he seemed better in that he didnt throw up but he still coughs badly.Hub and Ian have also caught the bug and is also coughing and has a runny nose. I also caught the bug and my nose went on a marathon race without informing me.

It dawned upon me that a mother's work never ends. When i was a working mom,i could leave Caleb with other caregivers and rest or return to work, but somehow,as a stay-home mom,I am on-call 24/7. There is no back-up. It doesnt matter that i had to drag my dying carcass around the house with a preschooler clinging on to my legs as if for dear life and a baby choking me with his little arms, everything around the house still has got to be done,by the mother of course.

I just hope we will all get well in time to celebrate Chinese New Year next week.I dont want some relatives-in-law to start asking me why I 'allowed' my kids to fall sick again.

I think it's so cool, the colours of the spoon are wonderful, plus it'll leave a positive connotation with the boys, so they won't fear getting sick ;) and gorgeous photo!

Oh dear Tyan, this sounds just like what I have been going through with my kids. My eldest girl was hospitalised 3 weeks ago with pneumonia & bronchites and just when we thought things were going to get better, our son caught Chicken pox from another infant at daycare. Then last year my 2 week old newborn was hospitalised with fever. I was traumatised to say the least but it certainly helps to know that God is in control. Have faith my friend, God will never forsake you during these difficult days. In fact, He is carrying you through the difficulty. And I'm here, if you need a friend :)

Brilliant Tyan, you've done a lovely job with this, I love the colourful contents of the jar.
Poor little Caleb, it's awful not feeling well. Hope you are all in good health soon.

So sorry your home and family has been visited again by that nasty flu bug. I hope and pray your little one gets well soon, and that on one else in your family comes down with it.

This photo is a really joyful and fun bit of selective coloration. Well-done tyan!

Interesting hobby you have, Tyan. Your illnesses sound very much like the flu epidemics we have in Slovakia. So many kids get sick they close the schools and give all the kids a flu holiday for a week or two. I hope you and your boys get better soon.

Just a brief stop-by to say hi, and WOW, dear babe, this is once again absolutely fantabulous work. Truly Bravo, and I hope and pray too that Caleb, Ian, you and Law will be free of this virulent bug soon. Thank you so much too for your very kind and sweet thoughts at my blog the other day, dear tyan. I deeply appreciate them and will miss you too.

Very nice portrait shot of Caleb. Nice touch with the coloured spoons. Right dosage without overdoing the highlight. Hope Caleb gets well soon.
