I did the 'animals' theme with Caleb at home,so he has recently become quite obsessed with all things animals,he even talked about it in his sleep!
So i decided i could do some music with him to take his mind off animals a little, thanks to Uncle VF for his very wise words:
For the little ones, playing music for them, age appropriate and other positive musical forms, is what can capture their imaginations and build their rhythms. Even buying or making them little toy instruments to play alone with the music in their own way is fine. Watch and listen, see if this child is ready for the next levels; don't just cart him or her off to the music lesson factory (or, fill in the blank for sports, reading, memory or whatever). Resist the parental peer pressure to force your children into the prevailing mode; let them be children while they are children.
i went and bought a set of toy instruments for just $16.90! LOL,well, some parts were dusty and the cymbals' screws came off after Caleb hit it non-stop for half an hour of our first music lesson, but its ok lah,the rest still work, except that the string to the drum fell off too,but was reparable.hahaha.Made in China, what do you expect??!?!?!
Anyway,i must confess i am afraid to use the dvd video recorder else i would have caught very precious moments on the video.I will learn it over the weekend and get rid of my trembling hands,i swear.
I played songs on the CD player and taught Caleb when to hit the drums. He caught on fast and the song went like this:
Walk in the Light(Hit the drum) Walk in the Light(Hit the drum) Walking in the shadows we'll go Bump(hit!) in the night
Walk in the Light(Hit the drum) Walk in the Light(Hit the drum) C'mon follow Jesus We'll go walking in the light(Hit!)
He looked so full of concentration i didnt want to interrupt, and we actually went making a din in the house for an hour!
And of course,Ian was licking the cymbals, the tambourine and the drum-sticks..LOL
lovely images. I bet they were loving it! please dont be intimidated by the video recorder. It is just a camera!

It looks like they were having great fun Tyan. Here's a suggestion for a little quieter musical instrument, put some dried rice into a plastic bottle and tape around the bottle top. It still makes a noise but can be useful when you don't want it so loud :) also if you fill about 6 small plastic bottles with a little rice or sand, stick numbers or pictures to the bottles (tape the bottle tops) and get a llttle ball, they make a great game of skittles too. I love the expressions on their little faces :)
