Don't Be Afraid of the Night

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 5 April 2008 in People & Portrait.

I used to be very afraid of the night when i was a child. My foster family got into some major conflict with a neighbour, who would hurl human faeces at the door and come in the evenings and the adults scream and shout vulgarities at each other. And my nanny would shove me into the room, slam the door and shout at me to sleep. Then i would cower at the corner of the room, because it was so dark i didnt know where the bed was. Even though i am already a mother of two,i still do not really like the night and the darkness it brings.

I sing this song to the boys when they sleep:
The lights are off
Its dark outside
Thoughts come into my mind
Spiders, snakes and creatures of every scary kind
I know they all are imaginary
But even if they are real
Jesus is much stronger
Than the fiercest monster

So dont be afraid of the night
Even in the darkness we are always in God's sight
So go to sleep, dream happy dreams
God will hold you tight
You don't have to be afraid of the night

:( That's a really sad story... But it's good that you're protecting your children from the night now. :)

How blessed your boys are, that their parents know from whence their strength comes, Tyan.
Your personal experience was horrible, but you are rising up from it.

I'm thinking also of our David, now sleeping his eternal sleep ... with not a worry or care. xo

This is an absolutely wonderful photo! That sounds like an awful experience for a child! Good thing you protect your children for such things.
