Chrysanthemum Tea

Supposedly cooling and good for nourishing the lungs especially on hot and humid days like these.

I also added in gouqizi which is good for detox, eyes and kidneys.

Update on HFMD

On Monday alone, another 527 preschoolers came down with the HFMD,which means this week may even exceed last week's record of 1,245 cases in a week.

I feel the reason for the spread could be due to the weather and the fact that there are so many childcare centres now.I read that there are about 50.000 children in childcare centres here!

I was glad to see Caleb's kindy becoming more stringent in their checking.Today, there were more teachers at the gate checking for blisters and fever on the children. They were even wearing masks! They have also stopped water and dough play. What is worrying is that the deadly strain EV71 that caused 7 children deaths in 2000-2001 and schools to shut down is also on the loose this time. Poor children. I was just thinking to myself if only i was clever enough to come up with a vaccine for HFMD,i'll be rich, famous, have as many kids as i want and not having to work.HAHAHA.*Dream on*

Singaporeans:The Ugly and the Beautiful

*The Ugly*

Few weeks back,i was pushing the stroller with Ian on the seat and Caleb sitting on the padded back frame.Caleb loves to tap the EZLink card at the gantry at the train stations. So that day,he as usual tapped the card reader at the gantry meant for people with prams and older folks and it showed that there was some problem with my card.I tried tapping once more and when it still didnt work,i retreated with my stroller to find out the problem with the train staff.

This lady behind me said,'You are so slow!'

I was in a bad mood so she was asking for it.

I looked at her in the eye and retorted,'Why are you so impatient?'

'That's because you are taking such a long time!'

'Oh yeah, and that's because i have 2 young kids in tow and for your information this gantry reserves priority for people like me with prams!'

You may be shocked.Friends who know me know that I am the non-confrontational kind of people.I get upset with a person,i'd usually smother myself to death inside and whine in private rather than confront the offender.I think this is the first time i "lost it" and started 'picking a quarrel' with a stranger.A close friend said I must be very very stressed to do that.LOL

*The Beautiful*

Yesterday,i was on my way to my parents' place to give tuition after lunch. It didnt look like it was going to rain at all so i walked with the boys on the stroller. When i was at the traffic junction,it suddenly rained. At first it was a few big drops, which i had hoped, since i lost so much weight, that i could walk 'in between' the rain,LOL,but it got heavier and heavier.I got Caleb to hold the umbrella over himself and Ian while i started running with the stroller. There was no shelter anywhere and I just had to make a dash. By the time,i was drenched in sweat and rain. A pathetic sight. I hope nobody took any pictures of me at that point,ha.The boys were dry, fortunately.

One car stopped and a lady asked,"Do you need an umbrella?i have one!"I smiled and waved thanks and said its ok.

Minutes later, another car honked and a lady asked me to hop in so she could give us a ride home. But i was a stone's throw away so i waved thanks and it's-ok.I felt like giving the stranger a hug.So nice.

I am laughing at your story, esp. the part about your confrontation with the impatient one. Good for you, tyan. You have earned the right to speak up for yourself. I would love to have seen her face when you said what you did. She surely deserved it. It's also nice to know there are caring people out there, like the one who offered the umbrella and ride.

So sweet of the ladies to offer you umbrella and ride home. :) It's really seldom that one gets to meet such people.
Good for you that you stood up to the horrible woman at the MRT. She truly deserves it!

ya know sometimes - its just fine to be confrontational - i know how you feel. I am usually not that kind of person either. BUT once in a while i just turn about look them straight in the EYE and say what i really think. And its usually along the line of how RUDE they are... I personally think its good to do this once in a while and just get if off your shoulders.

The rain sounded lovely tho you ended up being drenched.

So nice of the lady to offer u a ride. Very rare to have people like that in Singapore. :) I also encountered some not so nice experiences at the pram gantry. You know it's a 2-way traffic but inconsiderate people kept entering/exiting via that gate despite seeing me with a stroller on the other side. Thankfully, one officer in the control office saw what happened and quickly pressed a button to stop them so that I could have a go first. Think he must have seen this situation many times a day. Why can't those people use the entrance for normal people?! Also, the train lift is meant largely for disabled people right? There was once I saw a whole crowd squeezed into the lift, leaving no space for a man in a wheelchair and so he had to wait. Why can't those people take the escalator or at least let that man go in first??? Haiz.

Oh, I like to boil chrysanthemum with a few ginseng slices too. sometimes I add honey instead of sugar. Yummy! Brewed it for a long time and it would taste just like those sold at the chinese medical halls. Remember last time they were sold in glasses? Nowadays, it's all in sealed plastic bottles. More hygienic but then so unenvironmental friendly. :/

Hi Buddy, I am glad you stood up to that awful lady. She probably needed that anyway. But God also gave you a beautiful incident to make up for it which shows you how much He cares for you and the boys - by keeping them nice and dry! :)
