Gracious SocietyPosted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 24 June 2008 in People & Portrait. You might be slightly surprised to know that nobody ever gave up their seat for me in the course of both my pregnancies whenever i took a train. Maybe I didnt look lovable enough. Then the lifts at train stations. There is this sign for the handicapped but apparently nobody heeds it and those who really need it have to wait till these able-bodied people has gone on the lifts and move on with their very important and busy schedules. I am queuing behind this wheelchair-bound man with 2 young kids in a stroller.

Rags from Plano, United StatesIt is sad when a society decides not to care about the needy and handicapped. 24 Jun 2008 5:25am Lorraine from Gatineau, CanadaYes Rags put it so well...good reporting photo Tyan :) 24 Jun 2008 9:15am Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesVery keen illustration of the chronic self-absorption of our society. It is unfortunate that we aren't more aware of the needs of all, and not primarily our own. 24 Jun 2008 10:13am chum from Singaporeits times like this when i'm not proud to call myself a singaporean. its unfortunate you got this shot, really. but like lorraine said, it is good reporting. 24 Jun 2008 11:57am Ras from Plano, United StatesThat is sad how people treat others wen they only think of themselves. 24 Jun 2008 3:15pm Sue from SingaporeYes, it is a very sad state of affairs when people are only absorbed with themselves with nary a care for others in need. This pic should be sent to STOMP! 24 Jun 2008 4:02pm Peter Miller from Lichfield, United KingdomGood selective colouring, spotted you on MaryB 24 Jun 2008 4:36pm Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaAs mentioned by te comments above - a great glimpse into what our society is lacking - a little bit of selflessness!! I love the way you have chosen to use the focal black and white to really highlight the gent even more!! great work Ty1 My apologies for the sporadic visits things have been rather hectic this side of late! :) 24 Jun 2008 5:59pm MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomA great use of selective colouring Tyan, it really emphasises this poor man's plight. There are some very selfish people in this world, which is very sad. A thought provoking shot Tyan. 24 Jun 2008 7:45pm Judy from Brooksville-Florida,, United StatesThis is a wonderful social statement, Tyan, of how selfish humans can be. It's awful!!! 24 Jun 2008 9:07pm Tse Min from Melbourne, Australianicely done photo!!! it's sad isn't it? people don't give priority to the people who needs help. australia is surely a disabled person's heaven. they must be provided with equitable and dignified access as any other able bodied person. 24 Jun 2008 11:09pm Shiyun from Singapore*Faint* I also think you should send the picture to STOMP... 25 Jun 2008 2:13am Rabbit from Richmond, United StatesYeah - seems the bigger the city gets the more rude the people are... Maybe they know you dont know them from heads or tails *in a small town everyone KNOWS if your rude or not* I also notice wheelchair man has a license plate - guess he's well equipped for the open road :D 25 Jun 2008 4:50pm |
