Painting

I did one of the most insane things in my life last week.I allowed the boys to do painting. I remember i let them paint once or twice some time ago but it was always a calculated move, such as holding their hands and snatching the brush over once they start to run amok. I have no helper to help me clean up the mess,so I always hesitated letting them do such 'extreme' activities because I knew i would go crazy cleaning up the mess.

I lined the wall and floor outside our flat with old newspapers and they rolled their patterned sponges on the drawing paper. Disaster happened when they dipped their rolls into the pail of water and instead of waiting for me to help them squeeze the sponge dry, they started running amok, with the watercolours dripping happily on the floor, including the parts not covered by newspapers. Then they started rolling the paint on the 2 mammut chairs, and shaking their drippy rollers at each other's faces.

Sigh. After that I had to make sure they go straight into the bathroom without putting their hands on MY walls, bathe them, scrub the toilet, and the mammut chairs, and then scrub the floor outside my flat. And then mop the floor in my house of all the painted footprints.

I think I wont be painting with them for a long time to come.

A painting frenzy in progress ... but what fun they had!
Look at Ian in his white pants, just looking so serious, while Caleb hams it up for the camera.
They had fun; mommy did the cleanup. Next year they'll do better. <grin>

There are some things too dangerous for the hands of children... lesson learned. I'm sorry but I am laughing with you and your exasperation in this wonderful story; your photo of Caleb and Ian is perfect.

I totally agree with you! It's such a mess when the kids do painting. I leave it to the childcare centre to engage them in 'such' activities. hehehe
The only painting they get to do at home is using the colour pencils/ magic pens. Think Robyn only had 2-3 times of painting with poster colours at home.

To think in this photo the painting looks so under control. Maybe next time. I agree it is HARD to paint with any little ones.
