Shapes in Chinese

Sometimes I get a bit discouraged trying to teach the boys mandarin. There were many occasions when Caleb replied in English when I speak to him in Mandarin, or ended up speaking to me in 'rojak' (sentence mixed with English and Mandarin).

So I was pleasantly surprised when Caleb can by now read and say out colours in Chinese, and even recognise the Chinese characters for shapes. We drew shapes, coloured them, and he attached the corresponding Chinese characters beside the shapes.

FANTASTIC! ... I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it is to learn to draw all those characters, when letters such as r-e-d, b-l-u-e can be learned. All the characters color names on the left end with the same three slanted lines ... ???

I don't know that a trapezium is 'di-xing'. I'm learning sthg new too! :D

Robyn wasn't wearing earrings at the childcare for her birthday celebration. It's the tiara (and the current status of the tiara? -- broken). Actually it was her teacher's idea to let Mei-mei wear her party dress on her birthday. :)

Talking about cakes, Meimei got bored of them and told us not to buy another cake because 2 cakes are enough.

Why doesn't Caleb's kindy allow birthday celebrations? It makes the kid feel so special on that day. So fake to 'share' the cake.

This is fascinating to look at. I am impressed by Caleb's focus as he takes on this task without flinching.

I guess it is not so much the characters that are learned as the unbeatable power of learning itself.
