Cheesecake & something that made me happy

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 28 April 2009 in People & Portrait.

One day, Caleb told me he wanted to eat the carrot cakes i made last week. I told him we had no carrots so I suggested cheesecake because I had some cream cheese left. Then when we started, i realise to my horror that we didnt have oreo biscuits to be used for the cake base, nor sour cream for the cake.

So we used leftover honey stars and the boys had fun helping me pound them to bits. Ian used 2 drum sticks and started tapping on the ziplock bag as if he was drumming.

Then i used yogurt instead of sour cream since both tastes sour to me. All in all, the cheesecake turned out better than i expected!

Every week, Caleb has a show-and-tell session in class. Children have to bring objects or do actions that start with the particular alphabet letter of the week. This week is 'W', and Caleb wanted to talk about 'Walrus' and 'Waterfall'. So i drew a waterfall and some simple landscape, got Caleb to colour them and paste blue strips of paper as cascading 'waterfall'; and a Walrus with a letter W by its side, resting at the foot of the waterfall. I used thick tape to paste the walrus so that it had a three dimensional effect.

After school yesterday, Caleb's teacher told me that the principal happened to see the artwork and she and the teachers liked it so much they requested to keep the artwork for display in school after Caleb is done with show-and-tell. That made me very happy for some time. Heh heh.:)

You may be exhausted from your concerns over Caleb's health issues, but you are one creative mom!
Bravo on that creativity on the cheesecake ingredient substitutions ... and on all the 'W' artwork. xx
