Caleb's Birthday CelebrationPosted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 22 May 2009 in People & Portrait. It is Caleb's birthday tomorrow and he got to celebrate his birthday with his school friends yesterday. Caleb's school is the first I heard of which doesn't allow children to bring along birthday cakes to celebrate their birthdays. But I don't mind as I guess that helps to cut down on hassle of cleaning up,disrupting lessons and comparison among the peers. However, on each child's birthday, the teachers celebrate his/her birthday with the whole cohort during assembly using a fake cake with a real candle. The teachers and all the other children sing a birthday song for the birthday child,'Happy Birthday to you, and May the good Lord bless you', and the birthday boy gets to choose from three types of claps that he wants his friends to clap for him--the 'crocodile clap'(clap like mouth of crocodile opening and shut),'chopstick clap'(using 2 fingers to 'clap'), and the 'rainbow clap'(clap a big round from left to right). Caleb chose the crocodile clap which he had in mind since months back, haha.

Sue from Sydney, AustraliaVery innovative of the school. Over here...they don't want cakes too. Perhaps cos there are kids with nut allergies. But I am happier to celebrate the birthdays on our own. Happy Birthday Caleb! God bless you! 22 May 2009 9:09am Xinyi from Singaporeyo.. time flies.. caleb is 4 now!! gosh.. cakes are not allowed in cases of food poisoning.. crocodile clap?? so innovative??!! so cute of him to know what he wants months back... :P 22 May 2009 9:21am Mandy Provan from Johannesburg, South AfricaHow very special for them!!! I hope today was fun too! 22 May 2009 4:19pm bwee from SingaporeNever heard schs disallowing bd cakes. Probably a gd thing though! Save $ and less sugar in their diet!
