Butterfly Lodge: Leopard Lacewing

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 9 June 2009 in Animal & Insect.

It is very important how you give names to objects, because apparently, you are what you are called, as in this Leopard Lacewing:)

When I was teaching in a school some years back, I was a 'teacher-counsellor' and often I had to do follow-up with 'problematic' kids. It was an 'exciting' job no less because there were occasions i had to run across the street to stop a student who threatened to jump, or 15-year-old who just had a baby and didnt know whether she should make herself known to him as 'mother' or 'sister', or some who carved words on their hands using penknife....There were many broken hearts, unhealed memories that I shudder to try to pick up and I remembered thinking that perhaps my own broken childhood had allowed me to reach out to other broken people. It was an emotionally draining job but it convicted me of the importance of parental guidance and love in a young individual's life.

I remember distinctly one student who told me in tears, '他们都说我是烂苹果,我就烂给他们看!'(translated: Since they all say that I am a rotten apple, I will rot to prove them right!!)

So my friend,
Never call anyone ''Stupid'', ''Moron'', or even 'fool',
Even when you have lost your cool,
Because soon enough,
In a huff,
Even if I am not what you meant me to be,
I might just live up to your expectations of me.

That's true..i totally agree with you..children are easily influenced by the outside world, what people say or do actually affects them in the way they act n behave.. I was convinced of that when my son was in a childcare n he picked up a lots of things from his friends, good n bad. He'll come back telling me things like we need to do certain things bcos his friends did it too..or he'll say some unkind remarks which he says is alright ( to my alarm ) cos his friends says it too..
