Actually all he needed was a word of encouragement and assurance that he was doing just fine.
Reminds me of Jay Chou's 《蜗牛》(snail),where a snail perseveres with its every heavy shell to climb upwards, where the vast skies await.

I like the look of determination on his face; Ian may be cautious, but it looks to me like he also knows how to face challenges and persevere. Great photo, mommie.
