Eric Carle's The Very Busy Spider

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 18 September 2009 in Art & Design.

We continued the whole week with all things Spider, Spider Counting Cards on Math day; I couldn't find a Chinese nursery rhyme on spiders, so i wrote one myself, it was quite fun! And Caleb wanted to make a rainbow spider, so we made a mosaic rainbow spider, maybe we will turn it into a lantern for the Mid Autumn Festival!:)

Cute. Reminds me of when our children were in kindergarten. There was a popular story being used in class called "Anansi the Spider" (from an African folk tale) and it looked a lot like the one in the center of your trio of shots - round with legs and eyes. Our son's class project was to make ornaments for our Christmas tree - so he came home with a silver-painted styrofoam ball with silvery/black pipecleaner legs sticking out, bent at an angle and a thread coming out from its rear to hang it. That was 21 years ago - we've still got it, unless my wife recently gave it to our son's new bride.

I love your teaching style, Tyan; the themes reinforce the boys' learning.
Glenn's story is also a prize ... and we have Christmas ornaments our children made in the 60's!
