R's Birthday Party

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 19 September 2009 in People & Portrait.

We were invited to Caleb's classmate's birthday party today. R stays really near us,just 2 blocks away and the boys sometimes play together at the playground near our blocks. After school everyday, R, Caleb, Ry, K and A seem to form a clique and dash off to the school playground to play for 15 minutes, and zoom off to the toilet together before going home.

Ian, for some reason, really likes A(boy), and announced to me one day that he 'loves' A. And he has been insisting on having a schoolbag and even joining Caleb in the hall for assembly everyday when I bring Caleb to school! Looks like my worries that Ian may not adjust in school are unfounded. And maybe I am the one who is going to suffer from separation anxiety!

K is the only girl in the clique and she has this really contagious bubbly laughter. I notice she is always the only girl who plays with the boys and Husband noted that she was the only girl who didnt wear pink to the party, haha.

Ry's mom has an older daughter, whom you can see in the top right pic, reading to the other little beanies. Ry's mom was telling me that daughters and sons are really different. She narrated that whenever she fishes out a cane, the daughter will drop whatever 'bad deed' she was doing, while the son will run off to fetch another cane and start fencing with her. That was really funny. So ain't I living life the hard way because I have TWO boys? Double Trouble?:)

The party was really well organized. R's mommy prepared games and presents for the children and they had a blast.

See R's McQueen birthday cake.

Happy Birthday, R!:)

It's fun to see all the barefooted children having a good time. Is it customary to remove shoes before going inside?

@Judy: Law says its an asian thing, though i am not too sure about that! But we don't wear shoes inside the house,it will dirty the house!:)

Sue from Sydney, Australia

I love all your photos dear. Sorry for not having visited...lots of things have been going on. Will update you more later. With regards to the shoes part, here in Australia, I too have a hard time trying to adapt to keeping my shoes on in other people's homes and accepting them doing the same in my house. Perhaps its really an asian thing :) Hope everything is fine with you!

Love how your photos are always attached to Real Life and to the unstoppable swirls and gushes and surprise soakings we go thru while trying to believe we have it under control. Hold on tight.
