Eric Carle's The Lonely Firefly

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 12 October 2009 in Animal & Insect.

We are into Eric's third bug-previously we did the Busy Spider, the Hungry Caterpillar and now the Lonely Firefly. Eric's hard cover books are expensive but i found a soft cover-magazine-like Firefly at Borders that costs a lot cheaper($9.95). It was also fun with glittery stickers for the children to stick as the story unfolds. I drew an anatomy of a firely and cut out the different parts for the boys to piece it up, then we glued glow-in-the-dark stars at the abdomen area to see it glow at night. Too bad we cant see fireflies in Singapore,it would be so much fun. I got a few book titles on fireflies and tried to look for them at the Sengkang Library in vain. But i found 3 of them at Bishan library! Bishan has a good range.

I felt nostalgic and downloaded the lyrics for 《萤火虫》by 伊能静 and sang it as part of my firefly 'story plot' during our daily drive to Caleb's school. Watch the MTV on youtube by original singer.

You're truly creative YT, if you stay nearer I'd send my boys over for lessons! BTW I like Ian's armrest.

@sinchy: thanks for your kind encouragement:) The boys' dad even has a name for that soft-spot-armrest--BOB. He said, since he cannot get rid of it,he'll have to be good friends with BOB.*faint*

What a beautiful song you have conspired me into listening to there . . !! . . the melody will be in my head all day, now. And, again, congrats on your presentation shift which has created something so distinctive and perfectly aligned to your unique storytelling.
