The Grouchy Ladybug

Posted by tyan (Singapore, Singapore) on 19 October 2009 in Animal & Insect.

Introducing Eric's fourth bug,The Grouchy Ladybug. It was about this grouchy ladybug which didnt want to share a leaf full of aphids and went to take on many 'opponents' to show his rival that he was big and strong enough. In the end, he was slapped by a whale's tail to where he first began, where his friendly rival shared the remaining aphids with him.

I used red food dye, and the effect turned out well for a ladybug thumbprint art, which Ian get to enjoy too. There is this nice little Lucy ladybug poem that i found online, together with ideas on a turn-the-wheel 'L is for..' and a simple flapbook on adding legs and antennae to the ladybug. I was previously trying to look for books on fireflies but ended finding more ladybug books. Most are children factual books on its life cycle.

Next i am going to try hunting for live ladybugs.

Dear Tyan, we're back from our trip, and yours is the first blog I'm going back in to see what I missed. I won't have time to comment on all of then, but so far I love your shoebox dog (educational) toy and Ian in his school uniform. You'll be amazed how quickly he'll pick things up, being the second child.

When I got here, I had to stop and comment. Nana Judy love ladybugs and has two albums on Webshots, taken by people from around the world - you can see it here! The boys might like to see some different kinds of ladybugs. xx
